About Jon Haines
- Intro (Who You Are)
I’m Jon Haines — a cybersecurity consultant and CISSP-certified professional by day, and a doctoral researcher in philosophy by night. My work bridges two domains often seen as unrelated: the evolving world of technology and the enduring wisdom of classical thought.
At first glance, cybersecurity and Aristotelian philosophy may seem worlds apart. But my academic work — including a dissertation on the ethics of technology — shows how questions of virtue, responsibility, and the common good are deeply relevant to modern technological challenges.
Whether I’m helping businesses secure their networks or teaching students about Aristotle’s concept of justice, my aim is the same: to foster clarity, resilience, and human-centered decision-making in a rapidly changing world.
- Cybersecurity Background
I currently work in security consulting, where I help organizations reduce risk, strengthen compliance, and respond to cyber threats with clarity and control. I hold the CISSP and have conducted risk assessments, policy audits, and incident response for clients across industries.
My consulting is grounded in both practical experience and an ethical framework — not just protecting systems, but aligning security practices with broader organizational values.
- Philosophical Background
I’m also completing a PhD in philosophy, specializing in Aristotelian ethics, political theory, and the philosophy of technology. My dissertation explores how classical ideas about purpose, virtue, and happiness can inform our use — and our understanding — of modern technology.
In addition to my research, I’ve taught philosophy at the university level and am building out a teaching and consulting platform that brings these insights to educators, students, and professionals navigating the ethical challenges of digital life.
- Where These Worlds Meet
The integration of cybersecurity and philosophy isn’t just personal — it’s strategic.
As artificial intelligence, surveillance, automation, and privacy continue to reshape our institutions and daily lives, we need ethical thinking that’s informed by technical realities.
My long-term vision is to create a consulting and education firm that supports both — helping organizations make principled choices in a digital age, and helping students rediscover the humanistic traditions that illuminate them.
